Dogs are not Violent by Nature, the Circumstances made them so: Kerala HC Gave Directions to Rehabilitate Community Stray Dogs
The Kerala HC while gearing a matter on stray dogs poisoned to death by the Thikkakara municipality held that; the dogs are not violent by nature but the circumstances tend them to be violent. The 100 dogs were found poisoned to death and dumped in waste. The municipality contends that they are receiving frequent complaints from the residents that dogs are posing threat to them.
The court held that; killing or maiming animals in such a way is not the right solution to tackle the problem of residents. The Kerala HC asks the municipality to submit the list of individuals and organizations that are keen to take care of dogs on the next date of hearing.
The court further observed that it is the duty of the municipality to keep peace in the society containing stray dogs. So, it should strike balance between the interest of residents and dogs as well.
