Delhi High Court asks AIIMS that Can a Medical Superintendent Visit schizophrenic patient at home?

On Tuesday;the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)  ordered by the Delhi High Court to answer the court whether a Medical Superintendent from the institute could visit the home of a psychiatric patient suffering from Schizophrenia and examine his condition.

A Supreme Court Judge, Justice V. Kameswar Rao has passed an order in response to a petition bought by the mother of a 33-year-old person, who diagnosed with ‘Psychosis and Bipolar illnesses’ in 2006.

His symptoms worsened, and later in the year 2019, he diagnosed with Schizophrenia. He becomes antagonistic towards his parents and to engage in violent behaviour as a result of his mental illness.

The Delhi Police, represented by Advocate Anupam Srivastava, claimed that when they went to the petitioner’s house in response to the Court’s order, the man could not be located.

The Court listed the matter for 21th February, 2022.

On a petition filed by his mother for seeking treatment for him at AIIMS

Advocate Akhil Sachar  filed a petition on behalf of the mother of a 33-year-old man, who  diagnosed with; ‘ Psychosis and Bipolar illness’ in 2006, but his symptoms worsened, and later in 2019 he  diagnosed with ‘Schizophrenia’.

The Court had stated in an order issued in May of last year that; the petitioner’s son requires immediate medical attention and had directed the Delhi Police to place him under the care of the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS); which would provide him with the necessary treatment. As a result, he received treatment in accordance with the Mental Health Care Act of 2017.

Subsequently; her mother then filed an application, claiming that; her son is apprehensive about going to IHBAS for treatment and, as a result, requesting that he be treated at AIIMS. The AIIMS, on the other hand, has already stated;that it is unable to offer an attendant in the event that the petitioner’s kid is admitted, but that; it has no issue to admitting him if the petitioner can arrange for one. Following that, the Court ordered the Delhi Police to make arrangements to transport him to AIIMS for examination.
