Overweight Airmen Would Burdened the Air Force: Delhi HC
The petitioner seeking relief was found overweight by 2 kgs according to the requirement of the Indian Air Force and; as per the medical standards for fitness. A division bench comprising of Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw and Justice Amit Bansal decided the matter. He rejects the plea of the petitioner and states, “It would be burdening Indian Air Force with overweight Airman who would be unfit to do duties”.
The petitioner weighed 64.7 kgs on March 8 as per the facts and; later he was able to reduce weight by 5.7 kgs by May 5. The Court observed that the petitioner was aware of the weight requirements, even then he could not able to bring his weight down to the required limits. It stands proved that the petitioner has weight gain problems and is not fit to be an airman. The Court was also of the view that the rule of fitness standards has to be abided by and; a slight variation for any particular candidate even therein cannot be tolerated and the exception can’t be made.
