Introduction

Constitution Day is also known as Samvidhan Divas or National Law Day or National Constitution Day.

The country celebrated the 5th Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas on November 26. The Constitution Day was first celebrated in 2015 as a mark of tribute to the father of Constitution Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. In 2019, it marks the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.

History

26 November has its significance in the history of independent India because on 26 November 1949, the Constitution of India was adopted and it came in to effect on 26 January 1950. Dr. Ambedkar is the Father of INDIAN CONSTITUTION. He was the first law minister of India, who was the head of the drafting committee and played an important role in the framing Indian Constitution.  The finalization of the draft took 2 years, 11 months, and 17 days.

Celebration Of Constitution Day In The Supreme Court

November 26, 2019, Constitution Day- Supreme Court Auditorium is all set to celebrate this MOMENTOUS day with zeal.

And the special day shall be graced by the President Ram Nath Kovind, CJI SA Bobde, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Justice NV Ramana, Justice Arun Mishra, Attorney General for India KK Venugopal, Office bearers of SCBA (Supreme Court Bar Association) and SCAORA (Supreme Court Advocates-On-Record Association) and the other dignitaries.

Official Multilingual Mobile App. of the Supreme Court of India, developed with the technical consultation of the National Informatics Centre will be launched today. It will be available for download on the website of the Supreme Court and would provide access to Case Status, Display Board, Daily Orders, Judgments, Office Reports, Circulars, and other useful information for Lawyers, Litigants, and citizens. This App. will be available in English, Hindi, and six regional languages.

On this special day, The ‘Supreme Court Vidhik Anuvaad Software’ short-termed as ‘SUVAS’ shall also be presented to Hon’ble the President of India. SUVAS is a machine-assisted translation tool trained by Artificial Intelligence. This Tool is specially designed for Judicial Domain and at present, it has the capacity and capability of translating English Judicial documents, Orders or Judgments into nine vernacular languages and vice versa.

Celebration In Schools And Government Department

Constitution Day is not a public holiday. Various departments of the Government of India celebrated the first Constitution day. As per the Department of Education and Literacy, the preamble of the constitution was read in all schools by all students. Besides, there were quiz and essay competitions both online and offline on the subject of the constitution of India. There was a lecture on salient features of the constitution in each school.

The Ministry of External Affairs directed all overseas Indian schools to celebrate 26 November as Constitution Day and directed embassies to translate the constitution into the local language of that nation and distribute it to various academies, libraries, and faculties of Indology.

Suggestions To Celebrate Constitution Day In An Effective Way

 We can organize various awareness campaigns in our locality, in societies to raise the level of knowledge about our constitution. Efforts should also be made to make people aware of their rights and duties towards the nation.

  • Dramas and plays are an effective medium to showcase our thoughts and awareness to the common masses by performing them in public, in schools, etc.
  • Organizing various seminars, lectures, games, and quiz on our constitution in schools and colleges will help them know about the history of the Indian constitution and great leaders India.
  • We can also organize flag marches and distribute pamphlets to the people regarding our ‘Preamble’ and the importance of our constitution.
  • Various informative programs can be broadcasted on the occasion of Constitution Day which should showcase the history of the Indian constitution and challenges and difficulties our great leaders faced in drafting the constitution.
