Central govt to file fresh status report before Delhi High Court on administering Covid-19 vaccine to children below 12
The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered the Central Government to file a status report outlining its position on Coronavirus immunization for children under the age of 12 [Tia Gupta (Minor) and Anr v Union of India ].
Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla’s bench gave; the Centre three weeks to file an affidavit in this; regard and scheduled the case for further hearing on May 12.
The court hearing a petition filed by; Tia Gupta, a 12-year-old girl, who demanded that even children be vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus.
The Centre’s lawyer, Anurag Ahluwalia, told the court that vaccinations for children over the age of 12 had already begun.
The Acting Chief Justice also referred to several media reports claiming that child vaccinations have begun.
Senior Advocate Kailash Vasdev, counsel for the petitioners, stated, however, that; millions of children under the age of 12 are still not receiving vaccines and are missing school due to the pandemic.
The Centr have set record guidelines for 15-18 years. Vaccination for children over the age of 12 has now begun. Please request that they place on record material outlining their vaccination plans for children under the age of 12. Students are missing school as a result of this, according to Vasdev.
According to Ahluwalia; different vaccines must be used for different age groups of children and trials are underway to assess the efficacy and safety of vaccines on Children. He also stated that the government will submit a status report on the matter.
As a result, the bench directed the government to provide its position in a new status report within three weeks.
Mr. Ahluwalia states that he will file a status report outlining the current situation regarding vaccination of children under the age of 12.
