Phone Tapping Case: IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla Approaches Bombay High Court against Pune FIR
Rashmi Shukla, an IPS officer, has filed a quashing petition in the Bombay High Court against a FIR filed by the Pune Police claiming phone tapping of politicians from 2015 to 2019 when the BJP-led alliance was in power in the state.
Shukla is currently serving as the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) South Zone’s additional director general in Hyderabad. She was the Pune city police commissioner from March 2016 to July 2018, when the phone tapping allegedly carried out.
Nana Patole, the state Congress president, claims that; his phone tapped in 2016-2017 under the excuse that it belonged to Amjad Khan, who implicated in a “narcotics smuggling” case. Patole further claimed that; the phones of Roasaheb Danve’s personal assistant, then; -BJP MP Sanjay Kakade, and other elected officials were tapped.
The State Government appointed; a three-member committee to investigate the claims once; they were made. Sanjay Pandey, an IPS officer who was then the Director General of Police in Maharashtra, led the committee.
Shukla charged with illegally tapping politicians’ phones between 2015 and 2019, according to the FIR filed on February 26 under relevant sections of the Indian Telegraph Act.
The Bombay High Court; refused in December to quash a new FIR filed by the Mumbai Police against unknown persons for; leaking Shukla’s classified report on phone tapping. While the court did not dismiss the petition, it did order the police to give her a week’s notice if she charged in the case.
