Supreme Court Issues Notice on a Plea to Ban ‘Mirzapur Series’ To Amazon Prime Video, Center and Producer
In a petition filed by Sujeet Kumar Singh, a resident of Mirzapur, the Supreme Court issues notices to the Central Government, Amazon Prime Video, and Excel Entertainment, the producer of the “Mirzapur” series. The petition states that the series ‘Mirzapur’ is violating or destructing the historical and cultural image of the city.
The Petitioner Contends that:
- The ‘Mirzapur’ series by showing shameless scenes and vulgar language violating the historical image of the city.
- The series contains nudity, harrasive and abusive language, and it violates the dictum of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court bans the publication and transmission of obscene material and material containing sexual acts via electronic modes.
- One cannot watch the series with family.
- After watching the series every person in the city feels shameful to face and interact with the outsiders.
The Supreme Court initiates the inquiry against the producer, Amazon prime video under the ‘Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, and Cinematograph Act.
