Karnataka High Court Stays Proceedings Launched Against Congress Leaders [Makedatu Padayatra]

The proceedings against a few congressmen who participated in a padayatra in January of this year to demand that; the Makedatu project over the Cauvery river be; implemented despite Covid-19 limitations were postponed by; the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday till the next hearing.
Until the next hearing date, the proceedings in C.C.No.8717/2022 that; are now sitting on; the file of the 42nd ACMM, Bangalore suspended, according to Justice S. Sunil Dutt Yadav.
The leaders of Congress questioned the legality of the criminal proceedings in this instance.
Senior Counsel A.S. Ponnanna argued on behalf of the petitioners that; the directives issued under the; Disaster Management Act of 2005 cannot be relied upon for; the purposes of the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act, 2020.
Additionally, it stated that; although the charge sheet presented makes reference to the provisions of the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act, 2020, no notification issued under; Sections 3 or 4 of the aforementioned Act, negates the need to invoke it.
