Jammu & Kashmir HC: The Government Should Consider Establishment of Commission Child Rights Protection in J&K
On Tuesday (16 February), the Jammu & Kashmir High Court directed the State Government to consider the establishment of the State Commission for Protection Child Rights. PIL of Shivan Mahajan vs. State of J&K and Ors. Raises the following point.
Petitioner Shivan Mahajan submitted his petition in person. Saying that it is necessary for every state to have a State Commission for the protection of Child Rights. So on that note, the government must issue a direction to the government for Union Territory as well. He also pointed out that a National Commission is discussing the matter and some shortlisted guidelines to establish for UT of J&K as well.
The Court opined that the State Government has taken sufficient steps for the protection of child rights. Still, the cause of the concern is the non-establishment of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
Section 17 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 envisions the constitution of a body. The body is known as the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
