Anil Deshmukh, leader of the NCP, is denied bail by a Mumbai court in a corruption case
Anil Deshmukh, the former Maharashtra home minister, and leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had a bail request in a corruption case against him refused by; a Mumbai court today. SH Gwalani, a Special Judge, issued the ruling.
Deshmukh most recently placed in the custody of the CBI till April 11, 2022, by a Special CBI court. The CBI had stated that; they intended to send Deshmukh to Delhi for investigation and requested custody of him for 10 days.
The Bombay High Court ruled in July of last year that; the CBI might look into the charges of corruption against Deshmukh regarding the transfer and posting of police officers.
Consequently, on April 24, 2021, an FIR was filed against; Deshmukh on suspicion of corruption and misbehavior as a result of the CBI’s investigation.
In accordance with the Bombay High Court’s directive in a case brought by the former commissioner of the Mumbai Police, Param Bir Singh, the CBI carried out this investigation.
Additionally, the High Court declined to overturn the FIR that the CBI had filed against Deshmukh. “The agency can legally investigate the restoration of Waze after 15 years only to the degree that; it ties with the investigation in the Rs 100 crore corruption case against Deshmukh,” the court had stated at the time.
Notably, the High Court denied a petition the Maharashtra government submitted last year asking for the deletion of several parts of the CBI’s FIR against Deshmukh.
The Maharashtra state government’s unwillingness to provide records to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its investigation of; the former Home Minister also questioned by; the Bombay High Court in August of last year.
