The Allahabad High Court has given Nagar Nigam 10 additional days to submit affidavits in the suo moto Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in response to the death of an eight-year-old kid who was killed after being attacked by more than 20 stray dogs in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday of this week, when the matter was taken up by the bench of Justices Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Shree Prakash Singh, the advocate for the Nagar Nigam, Lucknow, informed the court that the affidavits that the court had requested on the last date of hearing were in the process of being prepared and that ten more days would be needed.

The court granted his motion, and while giving Nagar Nigam additional time, it postponed the case for further hearing on September 19, 2022. According to a court order, the Additional Advocate General notified the court on July 8 that the District Magistrate of Lucknow had given his approval for the distribution of Rs. 1,50,000 to the surviving family members of the deceased kid from the Lucknow Rifle Club. However, the court decided that Rs. 1,00,000 should be the appropriate compensation for the child’s family.

So, the court ordered Nagar Nigam’s attorney to submit an affidavit explaining why Rs. 10 lakh could not be given to the family as compensation. Additionally, the court ordered the attorney for Nagar Nigam to provide a supplementary affidavit on Nagar Nigam’s compliance with the law regarding the protection of street dogs. the court ordered that the second affidavit must specifically outline the actions that are being taken or may have been taken in the past to protect city residents from the threat posed by street dogs as well as if any efforts have been made to ensure the safety of street dogs.
